Local Resources

Oconee County is rich with history and historic places. Two statewide programs are useful for protecting, preserving and promoting special places in South Carolina.

South Carolina Century Farms Program

A farm is eligible as a SC Century Farm if it has been owned by the same family for 100 years.

The South Carolina Century Farms Program is managed by the Bart Garrison Agricultural Museum of South Carolina, located in Pendleton, SC. Application information is available on their website.

South Carolina Historical Marker Program

The South Carolina Historical Marker Program is managed by the SC Department of Archives and History. Visit their website to learn more about program guidelines, criteria, eligible subjects, application process, and cost.

The Oconee County Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department may be able to sponsor historical markers in Oconee County.

National Register of Historic Places

The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation.
