Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Oconee History Museum! Join us to learn about poetry with Gloria Bayne.
Gloria Bayne is a distinguished poet and writer with a prolific career that includes over 400 published articles in Spanish local magazines and newspapers. Her work, deeply rooted in themes of identity, immigration, and community, has made a significant impact within the Hispanic community and beyond.
Among her many accomplishments, Gloria’s literary contributions include a celebrated poem featured in Diccionario de la Inmigración y la Otredad en las Américas and active participation in several poetry showcases at South Carolina universities with the Spanish Writers group. Her artistic endeavors extend to the visual arts, having participated in the Gender Line exhibition at Wofford College, which further highlights her commitment to exploring diverse social issues.
Gloria also played a key role in Emrys Journal, contributing to a project book focused on original, unpublished Spanish works. Her poetic talent has been recognized in multiple unpublished poetry writing competitions, where she has earned second-place honors.

In recognition of her leadership and influence, Gloria was featured by Palmetto Luna as one of the 50 Mexican community leaders in South Carolina, under the title Las Chingonas, which translates to “the powerhouse leaders.”
Originally from Mexico, Gloria’s journey is marked by her academic achievements, including a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Human Resources. She is a nationally certified interpreter and currently serves as an International Coordinator for Shriners Hospital.
A pioneer of the Hispanic Alliance, Gloria also serves as an executive board member for the Upstate Family Resource Center. Her deep passion for community service is matched only by her love for her two beautiful adult children.
